Sony Ericsson K750i and Linux

I just had a very strange experience. I hooked up my new Sony Ericsson K750i mobile phone via USB to my PC (running Linux 2.6.11 Debian unstable). And it just worked. I didn’t have to faff around with the USB driver as I’d had to for my Treo 600 a year ago. It just thought for a while, dumped several KB of its thoughts into syslog (I probably selected a debugging option when I built the kernel), and *ping* the memory stick in the phone appeared as /dev/sda. I just had to mount /dev/sda1 (vfat), and there it was.

Almost disappointing.

The phone is very nice, btw. Screen is good, mp3 playback is very good (even with the supplied earbuds — even through the speaker is not bad), camera is alright (for a phone). Organiser is rubbish: you can’t set up events without a time, or recurring events like birthdays, and the bold font used to identify dates with appointments in calendar view is barely different from the normal font. Sometimes I think I should just go back to a paper diary…

Hi Craig Thornton
I had the same problem. The connection showed at 115 kbps but Explorer showed Page Not Found error. The customer helpline couldn’t figure it out.

I discovered the solution after some fiddling myself. In your phone, go to –

Menu>Settings>Connectivity>Internet Settings>Internet Profiles

Here select the profile that you created with the help of customer helpline and click More>Settings to edit it. In the Internet Mode option select the WAP option and then Save. Try to connect to internet with your computer now.

hi, my mobile model number is k750i, how to get the pictures from phone memory to memory stick card.

Go to the file manager ([Menu] [7]), select the picture you want to move, press [More], [Manage Files], [Move to ext.mem]. If you want to move multiple pictures or all of them, use [More] [Mark] [Mark several] or [Mark all] first.

Hi, what about mounting main memory of the phone – not memory card?
Anybody made this? Linux see phone when it plug in via usb cable. /proc/bus/usb/devices shows the phone(syslog also), but how can we mount it?

Hi Dan. As far as I know you can’t *mount* the main memory of the phone as a mass storage device, only the memory stick. To access information from the main memory (calendar, contacts etc) you need to use OBEX/Multisync. Whether it’s possible to fetch images from main memory in this way I don’t know; it’s generally best to use the memory stick wherever possible.

Hello! Help solve the problem.
Very often try to enter the site, but says that the password is not correct.
Regrettably use of remembering. Give like to be?
Thank you!

hello. i’ve been having fun flashing my cell with custom stuff but got sick of windoze… i’m not aware about how it all works, i’ve used win32 phonexs++ and i plug the usb cable in the phone (turned off, with no sim card, holding C key) and it detects my phone so i can flash it. does anybody knows how it works, what protocol is this and if is there any linux software i can use to flash my phone?

I have se k750i . 1. My video camera is not working without memory card video player is not working without memory card . Perhaps my mob. Is china item .
2. I have 1gb memory card which is japan made . But my mob can not identify the memory card which is sony memory stick duo. Can any body help me ?

I have used the K750i for almost a year now and by far it is the best phone I have ever used.

To transfer contacts to K750i, use the bundled software and sync it with MS outlook or thunderbird.

If the memory card wont be recognised, connect the phone to the pc, and try to access the memory card (by expiriance this is best done in windows) an check what format it is in, my mate once told me that he had to do this when he got a card from hong kong so it miht work for this, check it is formated in either FAT, FAT16 or FAT32, if it is not then re format it and that should solve the problem (it is better to format the card in the phone, not a card reader)

Dan
